Conditions causing tiredness

Feeling tired is a key symptom of a candida overgrowth. Other symptoms of this condition include:

  • fungal infections (thrush, athlete?s foot, tinea, jock itch, ringworm)
  • abdominal bloating and gas
  • sugar cravings and hypoglycemia
  • feel tired and unrefreshed after waking in the morning
  • more prone to catching colds, the flu and infections
  • experience increased allergies and intolerances to foods, cleaning products and chemicals

How does candida overgrowth contribute to tiredness?

Candida albicans is a fungus that always lives in the intestinal tract. It's usually kept under control by the presence of the beneficial bacteria Lactobacillus speicies, Bifidobacterium and Escherichia coli. If however, the candida begins to outnumber the beneficial bacteria, then the candida starts to cause problems and certain symptoms may appear. This is referred to as candida overgrowth or 'candidiasis'. It causes tiredness because of three main reasons:

  1. It compromises the digestive function, which in turn causes malabsorption and nutrient deficiencies as well as an increased occurrence of food allergies and intolerances.

  2. It places an increased burden on the liver. This leads to alterations in sugar metabolism and the availability of glucose for energy. This will lead to hypoglycemia and sugar cravings.

  3. It compromises the immune system making you more prone to allergies, viruses, colds, infections and the flu. If your immune system constantly has to work harder to keep your body healthy, this will contribute to tiredness.
