Conditions causing tiredness

Sleep deprivation nearly always causes you to feel tired throughout the day. The longer the time frame that your sleep is disturbed, the more tired you will become. Indicators that you are experiencing sleep deprivation include:

  • You feel tired and unrefreshed after waking in the morning
  • You have difficulty falling asleep
  • You have difficulty staying asleep
  • Your sleep is interrupted (feeding or crying baby, snoring partner, noisy neighbours or traffic)
  • You snore or suffer with sleep apnea
  • You have to urinate frequently throughout the night
  • You have disturbing dreams that wake you through the night
  • You go to bed too late and rise too early (for you to get your required hours of sleep)

Some of these indicators are obvious causes of sleep deprivation (disturbing noises, going to bed late and rising early). However, sometimes the cause of sleep deprivation isn't so obvious. You may be in bed for at least eight hours without any disturbing noises, yet still have problems getting to sleep or staying asleep. Or, you may sleep for at least eight or more hours and still wake feeling tired and unrefreshed. There are many reasons for these two situations and if discovered, can often be corrected in a short period of time.

  • Did you know that problems getting to sleep can be caused by a deficiency of a common neurotransmitter?

  • Did you know that problems staying asleep can be caused by a deficiency of a different common neurotransmitter as well as certain foods eaten that night?

  • Did you know that certain herbs, nutrients and lifestyle practices can alleviate both problems of getting to sleep and staying asleep?

  • Did you know that certain foods eaten before bed can have a profound affect on sleeping patterns and nightmares?

  • Did you know that if you wake at the same time every night, it may indicate that a particular organ is imbalanced?
