  • Have you lost weight without trying in the last year?
  • Do you find it difficult to re-gain this weight?
  • Do you think that you look underweight?
  • Are people commenting that you look underweight?
  • Do you feel tired all the time, no matter how much sleep you have?

There are a number of conditions that a combination of tiredness and weight loss may indicate, depending on other accompanying symptoms. Read through the following list and click on the highlighted conditions that you relate to the most. You may not experience every symptom in the list and there may be more than one condition that you relate to.

If you are feeling really lethargic and washed out and your hair, skin and nails also feel as if they are deteriorating, then you may have severe nutrient deficiencies caused by either starvation, a poor diet or malabsorption.

If you also experience bloating and gas, alternating bowel motions (constipation/ diarrhea) or itchy skin, plus you have recently experienced illness while travelling, food poisoning or own a pet, then this may indicate an intestinal parasitic infection.

If you have also recently experienced an extremely stressful event (death, divorce, financial), this may indicate that stress is the cause of your tiredness and weight loss.

Please note - there are a number of serious diseases that may be underlying your tiredness and weight loss. It is important that you seek medical attention as soon as possible.
